      French bridge Pakse

      Located to the West of the city of Pakse, over the Sedone (Xe Don River) River we have the French from Pakse bridge, traversed by the main road from Pakse, Highway 13.

       

      Wat Luang

       

      At the foot of the French from Pakse bridge and Riverside Sedone is the largest and most beautiful of Pakse, the temple Wat Luang Temple. This temple is now the School of monks, it is very common to see Lao monks with its distinctive Orange tunic in the surrounding area.

      The best views of Old french punte Pakse and Xe Don river or river Sedone, find them in the back of the temple Wat Luang, which in turn live the monks and the local population tends to go fishing Pakse.

       

      Champasak Provincial Museum

      Located on the main road from Pakse, Highway 13, the Champasak provincial Museum is a small museum where artifacts Champa of bronze, jewelry, and textiles are exhibited. The most interesting Museum is a model of Wat Phu.

      The Champasak provincial Museum is open every day from the 8: 30 to 11:30 and from 13:30 until 16:00. The entrance fee is 10,000 kip (about 1€).

      Stadium Pakse

      On the outskirts of Pakse, on the way to the North bus station in the city is Pakse Stadium, stadium with capacity of 5000 spectators where soccer is played regularly.

      Apart from playing football, there is a gym in the stadium of Pakse.

       

      Wat Phabad

       

      Another great Temple of Pakse is Wat Phabad, it is the oldest Buddhist temple in Pakse, the roadside 13 on the way to the Champasak Museum.

      The temple Wat Phabad is visible and recognizable from the road by their colorful structures by way of small stupas. These structures are funerary monuments.

       

      Markets Pakse

      In the city of Pakse, there are 4 markets: the market day, the new Tang Frères, Talat Dao Heung market market and market of the kilometer 2.

       

      • Tang Freres the market: Tang Frères market, also known as new market, is a new modern building located in Ban Keosamphanh neighborhood, in the heart of Pakse, a few meters from the tourist office, Pakse Hotel and the temple Wat Luang.

       

      • Talat Dao Heung market: It is a semi open-air market is open from 5:00 to 18:00 daily. It is covered by a corrugated structure, mainly vegetables and groceries are sold, but you can find kitchen utensils and some other souvenirs. It is a market bazaar style somewhat removed from the center of Pakse, on the way to Japanese bridge over the Mekong river.

       

      • The daytime market Pakse: In the new market square Tang Frères mornings settled the market day of Pakse, it's the typical street market of Southeast Asia, very colourful and scented fruit and fresh vegetables.

       

      • The market km 2 of Pakse: On the outskirts of the city, stuck to the North bus station from Pakse is a large market known as the km 2 markets.

       

      Natural attractions around Pakse

       

      About 150 kilometers South of Pakse is Si Phan Don, a beautiful natural area with hundreds of islands in the Mekong river, which is over 10 kilometers wide at this point. Near the Cambodian border are the Khone falls, the largest falls by volume of South East Asia. This area of the Mekong is the home of the rare Irrawaddy dolphin.

       

      East of Pakse is the Bolaven Plateau, a mountainous and forested area about 45 minutes away by car. The area is known for its great scenery and many waterfalls. The highest falls are Ted Fane. Getting to the 120 meter high twin falls requires a trek through the forest starting near the 38 kilometer marker off Route 16 from Pakse to Paksong. Another waterfall, the Tad Gneuang is found deeper into the forest. Trips can be booked at Pakse travel agents.

       

      Ancient Khmer temples

       

      About 40 kilometers South of Pakse are the ruins of Wat Phou, a 10th century Khmer temple. The temple that is built at the foot of a mountain overlooking the plains is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It comprises of a number of barays, two palaces, several small shrines, a processional walkway and a main sanctuary that was dedicated to Shiva. Vat Phou Mekong cruises offers cruises down the Mekong river on a converted ferry boat. Highlights of the 3 days, 2 nights cruise include visits to the ancient Khmer temples of Wat Phu and Uo Moung, the Si Phan Don area and the Khone Phapheng falls.

       

      Ban Saphai silk weaving village

       

      Near Pakse is the silk weaving village of Ban Saphai. The village is located on Don Kho, a small island in the Mekong river 15 kilometers upstream from Pakse. Most families that live in traditional Laos style houses on stilts are involved in traditional silk weaving and offer their wares for sale. Trips can be booked at Pakse travel agents.
