Some months are better than others depending on where you want to go in North Vietnam and what you want to accomplish. Here is the best time to visit Northern Vietnam and enjoy your holiday to the fullest!

    Overview

Northern Vietnam’s climate is monsoonal with four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.

    • Summer (May-August) is the warmest season, with sun that can be dangerous on certain days of the month, but it is also the season when Vietnamese people go on relaxing vacations to the beach. During this time of year, the weather in Northern Vietnam is hot and humid, with heavy rains.
    • Winter (December - February), the higher up North Vietnam, the colder the weather will be. In this weather, some visitors may enjoy the cold winds and clear skies on the mountains. Temperatures range from 17 to 22 degrees Celsius on average, but can drop to lower than 10 degrees. Snow has fallen in certain regions, including Sa Pa.
    • The weather in Spring (March - April) and Autumn (September - November) is beautiful, however visitors should avoid the transition period since unexpected rain may disrupt travel plans. The average temperature in Spring is 22 degrees, while in fall it ranges from 20 to 25 degrees, making both seasons ideal for outdoor activities, this is the best time to visit Northern Vietnam.
    • According to locals and experienced tourists, you should travel when the weather is not too extreme, such as in the midst of summer or winter, or else the harsh conditions may be uncomfortable. Spring and Autumn have the most gorgeous weather, with breathtaking scenery and brilliant natural hues.
