Vietnam welcomed 11.3 million foreign visitors in the frist eight months of this year, during which the highest growth rate was seen in visitors from Asian countries, especially South Korea, Thailand and Taiwan.
According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), in the first eight months of this year, the number of foreign visitors to Vietnam rose by 8.7 percent year on year to 11.3 million.
During the period, there were 8.8 million visitors from Asia, accounting for 78.1 percent of the total number of foreign tourists up 9.9 percent year on year.
There were 2.8 million South Korean visitors (up 22.5 percent). 620.700 Japanese visitors (13.7 percent) and 596.400 Taiwanese (up 22.5 percent).
Malaysia sent 382,800 visitors (up 14.6 percent), 311,000 came from Thailand (up 46.3 percent), and 189,000 came from Singapore (up 5.4 percent).
The number of visitors from Europe was estimated at 1.5 million (up 5.3 percent) year on year, including Russia (up 537 percent), the United Kingdom (4.5 percent), France (up 0.9 percent), and Germany (up 5.6 percent).
Vietnam received 676,000 visitors from the Americas (up 6.2 percent) with the number of visitors from the US up 7.1 percent.
The number of visitors from Africa rose 8.3 perceent on year to year to 30,200.
