Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1

    HANOI – MAI CHAU (L)

     Heading out of busy Hanoi city, travel by road to Mai Chau, an idyllic valley populated by the many White Thai people. Arrive in Mai Chau then enjoy lunch in local house.

     
    The afternoon, start the Valley biking tour (or walking). The ride passes through many villages, across lush rice paddies, into the countryside and visit local minority home to get to know the local life style and culture.
     
    Overnight in Mai Chau.
  • Day 2

    MAI CHAU – MOC CHAU – SON LA (B/L)

     Upon leaving Mai Chau, the roads begins to deteriorate; however many villages dot the hillsides and undulating terrain make for an interesting journey. Along the way, stop in Xa Linh for a two hour trek past many timeless hill villages which are home of the Hmong hill tribe people. Travelling across the Moc Chau Plateau, catch a glimpse of the many tea plantations and see the Black Thai hill tribe people. They belong to the same Thai ethnic group, but are different from the White Thai in Mai Chau by their tradition and habits.

  • Day 3

    SON LA – DIEN BIEN PHU (B/L)

     The provincial museum and the nearby old prison are some of this hill town's major sights. You have a chance to visit these before leaving for our next destination. The winding roads cross over the Pha Din Pass before reaching Dien Bien Phu, the site of the decisive battle in Vietnam's struggle for independence in 1954. After checking into our central located hotel, enjoy a walk around to see this fast growing town. The main stop is Dien Bien Phu's Museum which details the event in place. Also pay a visit to the old battle field where the lush vegetation grows behind many war relics including old French tanks and artillery pieces. Overnight in Dien Bien Phu.

  • Day 4

    DIEN BIEN PHU – LAI CHAU – SAPA (B/L)

     After breakfast, continue driving via Lai Chau on a winding road on the mountain side.  See villages of Thai, Tay, Nung and H’mong tribes. Encounter foreign-curious but friendly local people. Numerous opportunities for photo taking. Have lunch in Phong Tho. After lunch, continue to Tam Duong - a timeless town is surrounded by stunning mountain backdrops and lush tea plantations. Then come up Tram Ton Pass where on a clear day you can see the Fansipan Mountain peak- Indochina’s highest peak at 3,143m above the sea. Upon arrival in Sapa, check in at your hotel.

  • Day 5

    SAPA – day trek to minority villages (B/L)

     After breakfast, drive to Lao Chai Village of Black H’mong people. Take a light trek through Muong Hoa Valley with beautiful scenery to Ta Van Village of Dzay ethnic people. Another medium trek to Giang Ta Chai Village of Red Dzao people. Stop at Cau May for a picnic lunch. Take a short rest before driving back to Sapa town.

  • Day 6

    SAPA – BAC HA SUNDAY – LAO CAI, TRAIN TO HANOI (B/L)

     Early depart from Sapa to to Bac Ha town to explore this fascinating Bac Ha dye market, one of the most popular in the region. Held only on Sunday, the market is a focal point for many of the region’s ethnic groups such as Flower H’mong, Tay and Thai. They come to trade wares such as silver jewelry and embroidered clothing, farm product, cow, horse, pig. This spectacularly colorful market is well-known for its many hand-made craft products. Your time to wonder around the market, take in the local game or try local rice wine. We then visit the H’mong people village nearby, walking through the villages, invited by the local people to their home for a cup of tea and talk about their life, tradition.

     
    Late afternoon, drive back to Lao Cai border town to catch the overnight train to Hanoi city
     
    Overnight on train (compartment of 4-berth sharing, soft bed, A/C).

    Option 1: Saturday: Replace Bac Ha market with a trip to Can Cau

    Option 2: Tuesday: Replace Bac Ha market with a trip to Coc Ly, where you can enjoy a cruise on the River Chay.

  • Day 7

    HANOI

     Arrival in Hanoi in the early morning, tour ends.

A. CANCELLATION POLICY:
The cancellation charges below refer to the non-transferable fee that is charged to the group member who has cancelled their tour:

  • More than 45 days before departure: No cancellation charge
  • Between 45 and 30 days before departure: 10% of total tour cost 
  • Between 30 days and 15 days before departure: 25% of total tour cost
  • Between 15 days and 7 days before departure: 50% of total tour cost
  • Less than 7 days before departure: 90% of total tour cost
  • No-show at the airport on the day of arrival/departure: 100% of total tour cost


B. CHILDREN POLICY (land service only)

  • Child from 1- 4 yrs:  Free of charge if sharing bed with parents 
  • Child from 5 – 6 yrs: charge 30% of adult price if sharing existing bed(s) with parents
  • Child from 5 – 6 yrs: charge 50% of adult price if using extra bed/mattress in parents’ room
  • Child from 7 – 11 yrs: charge 75% of adult price if using extra bed/mattress in parents’ room
  • Child from 12 yrs up: pay as adult rate
